Advanced Cells: Peroxisome

A Peroxisome is an enzyme package quite similar to the function of a lysosomes. Peroxisome's main function is to break down toxic materials within a cell, they will only hold on to enzymes that have oxygen and they work in areas of low pH. People with high cholesterol possibly have bad peroxisomes because it is known to digest fatty acids, but when fatty acids are not digested a build up of fatty acids can lead to high cholesterol. In many cases of scrapes or small abrasions, people use hydrogen peroxide to sterilize the cut. Hydrogen peroxide will attack the enzyme peroxisome, disintegrating the water and oxygen; Thus, breaking down the cell's cell wall in order to clean the bacteria in the cell.
